What is our goal?
The goal is to analyze border enforcement trends by looking at encounter types such as deportations, asylum seeking, penalties for unauthorized border, crossings and other title of authorities. We want to understand which states experience the highest encounters for specific demographic groups and how these encounters vary in type. These findings should help policy makers, researchers and the public better understand border dynamics and the effects of changing of immigration policies.
Question 1
How does citizenship relate to the type of encounter across different border regions?
Where are the highest number of encounters happening?
What are the most popular title authority cases?
What citizens are most commonly entering the US? What happens to them?
Plot 1: Examining encounters and title of authorities throughout border regions
To answer this we find where these encounters are happening and whats most popular title
Plot 2: Examining citizenship and encounter types under Title 8
To answer who is coming in we grouped countries by continents and charted the rate of their interactions
Analysis of Question 1
Focusing in on Title 8 and citizenship from each continent:
Most of enforcement actions are under Title 8 at the Southern border. These encounter types are typically apprehensions, particularly for individuals from South America, rather than inadmissibility.
This suggests that many South Americans attempting to cross the border do so without proper authorization, leading to detention rather than being denied entry at a port of entry.
It also indicates the rest of the word that has not been distinctly named in this dataset have the highest number of apprehensions and inadmissables.
Question 2
Do certain states have more encounters with a specific demographic, and how do these encounter types differ?
We narrowed down where the most populated encounters are happening
What states have the most encounters?
What demographics are having encounters? How do they differ?
