Graph 1: Happiness levels and chocolate consumption by country in 2017

This bar chart compares 2017 happiness rates with the 22 countries with the most chocolate consumption rates(kg/capita) in 2017. The countries are ordered from most to least chocolate consumption, with happiness scores fluctuating next to their respective countries. While all the happiness scores are in a close range, it appears that countries eating a moderate amount of chocolate are consistently the happiest.

Graph 2: Life expectancy, happiness levels, and chocolate consumption by country in 2017

This graph plots 22 countries with the most chocolate consumption rates (kg/capita) in 2017 against happiness rates and life expectancy rates in 2017. Contrary to what we thought, countries that consume less chocolate (smaller circles) actually have lower life expectancy rates. Switzerland seems to have struck the best balance, being one of the happiest countries with a high life expectancy and a lot of chocolate consumption—sweet!

Circle radius corresponds to chocolate consumption rates (kg/capita).
