LinkedIn is a professional networking and resume website and app that allows people to showcase their experience, search for jobs, or post about their company. As a college student, it is crucial to make and develop a LinkedIn, as many jobs as for LinkedIn profiles when applying, or you can even apply directly through the platform. From out own survey conducted, less than 10% of respondents considered themselves βexpertsβ at LinkedIn, while more than half considered themselves average at using or said they had no experience at all with using. It is hard to find help or guidance with creating or maintaining a LinkedIn profile, so this page is useful to gain insight on how to do these crucial steps for the job or internship application process.
After creating and developing your LinkedIn account, check out the video below on how to efficiently search for jobs based on location, title, salary, and more.
Networking is defined on Google as βthe action or process of interacting with others to exchange information and develop professional or social contacts.β When applying for internships or jobs, many do not realise the importance of networking before even applying, or using networking to land a job. You can use many different platforms to network, including LinkedIn, Handshake, CUeLINKS, or even emailing. We have included a Google Doc including a few templates that are useful for reaching out to alumni, employees of a company you are interested in, or even potential employers.
