Visualizing Public Computer Centers in New York City
INFO 5001 Project
This project focuses on creating an interactive and informative visualization of New York City’s network of Public Computer Centers (PCCs). The objective is to provide users with an accessible tool to locate and access PCCs based on various criteria, such as operating status, languages offered, accessibility features, and geographic distribution.
The project begins by sourcing and cleaning data from the NYC Open Data platform. Key components of the project include:
Operating Status Visualization: A bar chart displaying the operating status of PCCs, allowing users to identify currently operational centers.
Languages Offered Visualization: A chart showcasing the top five languages offered at PCCs, aiding users in selecting centers that meet their language preferences.
Accessibility Visualization: An overview of wheelchair accessibility and assistive technology availability at PCCs.
Geographic Distribution Visualization: Visualizing the distribution of PCCs across NYC neighborhoods, with an emphasis on the top five areas.
In addition to these visualizations, the project transforms the dataset into spatial objects for mapping PCC locations. Users can interact with an interactive map of PCC locations in New York City. Ultimately, this project aims to aid residents of New York City to locate Public Computer Centers that align with their specific needs and preferences.
