Analysis #1: Race and Anxiety/Depression
We will analyze the proportion of individuals belonging to minority racial groups (American Indian/Alaska Native, Black or African American, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander) who are diagnosed with anxiety and/or depression to the proportion of individuals belonging to non-minority racial groups (Asian, White) who are diagnosed with anxiety and/or depression. The identified minority groups are defined in the United States population census. We will run several two-sample t-tests comparing the point estimate for minority racial groups to the point estimate for non-minority racial groups. The null hypothesis would be something along the lines of: the proportion of American individuals belonging to minority racial groups who are diagnosed with anxiety and/or depression is the same as the proportion of American individuals belonging to non-minority racial groups who are diagnosed with anxiety and/or depression. The alternative hypothesis would be something along the lines of: the proportion of American individuals belonging to minority racial groups who are diagnosed with anxiety and/or depression is different from the proportion of American individuals belonging to non-minority racial groups who are diagnosed with anxiety and/or depression.
Analysis #2: Race and Trauma/Schizophrenia
We will analyze the proportion of individuals belonging to minority racial groups (American Indian/Alaska Native, Black or African American, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander) who are diagnosed with anxiety and/or depression to the proportion of individuals belonging to non-minority racial groups (Asian, White) who are diagnosed with trauma and/or schizophrenia. The identified minority groups are defined in the United States population census. We will run several two-sample t-tests comparing the point estimate for minority racial groups to the point estimate for non-minority racial groups. The null hypothesis would be something along the lines of: the proportion of American individuals belonging to minority racial groups who are diagnosed with trauma and/or schizophrenia is the same as the proportion of American individuals belonging to non-minority racial groups who are diagnosed with trauma and/or schizophrenia. The alternative hypothesis would be something along the lines of: the proportion of American individuals belonging to minority racial groups who are diagnosed with trauma and/or schizophrenia is different from the proportion of American individuals belonging to non-minority racial groups who are diagnosed with trauma and/or schizophrenia.
