Analysis #1
Research question: How does state allocation of financial resources affect crime rates across different states in the US from 2015-2019?
Hypothesis: There will be lower crime rates in states with higher financial allocation for police and education. There will be higher crime rates in states with higher financial allocation for prisons.
We plan to find the correlation between state financial allocation per capita on police, prisons, and education versus crime rate per state. We plan to do a multiple regression analysis with crime rates as the dependent variable and state allocation for education, prisons, and police as the independent variables. This will allow us to determine the relationship between state allocation of financial resources and crime rates.
Analysis #2
Research question: How does state allocation of financial resources affect crime rates across different states in the US from 2015-2019?
We plan to conduct hypothesis tests:
Hypothesis test related to crime rates and education spending per state:
Null (H0): there is no significant difference in the crime rates between states that spend more on education and states that spend less on education.
Alternative (HA): states, on average, spend more on education have lower crime rates
Hypothesis test related to crime rates and police spending per state :
Null (H0): there is no significant difference in the crime rates between states that spend more on police services and states that spend less on police services
Alternative (HA): states, on average, spend more on police services have lower crime rates
