INFO 5001 Project

The aim of our project is to enhance users’ (such as residents and researchers) comprehension of global earthquake patterns, particularly within the United States. We’ve compiled data from the 2022 earthquake reports, encompassing various attributes of each event. Leveraging this extensive dataset—featuring event times, locations, and magnitudes—our objectives encompass analyzing earthquake trends, exploring regional disparities, and crafting an intuitive, interactive Shiny application for public accessibility. Our Shiny app comprises three pages: the first two offer interactive visualizations allowing users to explore specific earthquake details within the United States by hovering over data points. The second page presents a global overview of past reported events. Lastly, users can forecast earthquake damage probabilities by selecting a region/country and date input.
